3-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech via Hassi Labied and Merzouga

Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Fes. Leaving the city behind, we head south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the landscape slowly changes from green hills to wide open plateaus.

Our first stop is Ifrane, a clean and peaceful town known for its alpine-style houses and cool climate. Shortly after, we continue to the cedar forests of Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques, where you can take photos and enjoy nature.

Crossing the mountain road toward Midelt, we pass small Amazigh villages and open valleys, stopping for lunch along the way. In the afternoon, the scenery becomes more dramatic as we descend toward Errachidia and follow the road along the Ziz Valley, famous for its long ribbon of palm trees and ancient ksour.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Hassi labied, at the edge of the Sahara. After a traditional welcome, you begin a camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, stopping on a high dune to watch the sunset. The night is spent in a desert camp, where you enjoy dinner, local music around the fire, and a sky full of stars.

Wake up early to witness sunrise over the dunes — one of the highlights of the trip. After breakfast at the camp, you return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4, then continue toward Rissani, once an important caravan center and still a lively market town on certain days.

We drive through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops, and follow the road lined with palm groves toward Tinghir. After lunch, we explore the impressive Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls rise above a clear river — perfect for a short walk and photos.

In the afternoon, we head to the Dades Valley, passing dramatic rock formations and old kasbahs. Before reaching your hotel, we stop at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the valley. Dinner and overnight accommodation in a charming local riad nestled in the Dades Valley.

After breakfast, we continue west through the Rose Valley, famous for its rose fields and kasbah-lined roads, especially beautiful in spring. Passing Skoura Oasis, we reach Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert.

A short drive brings us to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have time to explore this ancient fortified village and learn about its history and role in international films.

After lunch, we begin our journey to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco. Along the way, we stop for photos of mountain landscapes and Berber villages clinging to the hillsides.

Arrival in Marrakech is expected in the late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable 3-day desert journey from Fes.
